Volvo CE launches 95 tonne rigid hauler to global market

Volvo CE has extended the distribution of its proven R100 rigid hauler of 95 t (105 tonnes). This decision comes thanks to the addition of a certified EU Stage V / US Tier 4 Final engine

Proven on construction sites around the world, the Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) R100 rigid hauler is now equipped with a Stage V / Tier 4 Final engine, allowing it to enter the most demanding markets in terms of regulated emissions and to open up worldwide distribution. With a size and capacity that makes it the largest hauler in the company‘s lineup, the R100 rigid hauler promises to lower operating costs for customers by increasing productivity, fuel efficiency, and operator comfort. operator and availability.

Power is delivered by a top-of-the-line 783 kW (1,075 hp) Stage V / Tier 4 Final engine, with a combination drivetrain that delivers high torque capabilities, unmatched traction functionality and advanced rim traction for optimal performance. Transmission performance is provided by Volvo Dynamic Shift Control, which automatically sets up optimum gear selection, speed and torque for proven fuel efficiency.

Customers can expect to spend less per haul with the R100, featuring a dual slope body with a capacity of 79 yd (60.4 m3) for optimal load retention and minimal load displacement. The load profile policy allows the operator to achieve a constant average target payload, while the fast bucket tipping cycle time ensures overall efficiency. The Stage V / Tier 4 Final R100 features a selectable economy shifting mode for lighter duty or high speed applications and an automatic engine idle shutdown feature with adaptable timing that reduces unnecessary idling engine to reduce engine wear and operating costs.

The R100 also puts operator productivity and safety at the forefront, starting with the ROPS / FOPS certified operator’s cab, combined with non-slip steps and walkways that provide safe access to the machine.

Volvo relies on the high capacity and transport performance of its rigid hauler with intelligent monitoring systems. The on-board weighing (OBW) option ensures that the machine moves maximum payload safely, for profitable production.

The R100 is available with CareTrack – Volvo’s telematics system – to remotely monitor operational data, including fuel consumption, machine usage, idle reports and GPS position.

Customers interested in increasing the productivity of existing and future projects have access to Volvo Site Simulation, with assistance from their local Volvo dealer. The tool allows to define the most profitable equipment fleet, site configuration and project results according to customer needs. Using simulation, customers and dealers can work together to set up an equipment plan before a project begins.

Sustainable by design

Uptime and productivity are centered on the durable machine design, which promotes high component protection, longer life cycles and extended intervals between scheduled maintenance.

With a body made of impact and abrasion resistant 400-HBW hard steel, connected to a strong and durable frame, the R100 rigid hauler achieves lasting performance using:

  • Low center of gravity;
  • Smooth ride McPherson dynamic front suspension;
  • Specially designed wheel track and wheelbase to install excellent machine stability that mitigates all surface shocks;
  • The “horse neck” frame design provides torsional flexibility for high durability when traveling over rough terrain; and
  • Frame designed with pendant mount tanks and sleeve bores for high structural durability and reliability.

The operator’s choice

The R100 also puts operator productivity and safety at the forefront, starting with the ROPS / FOPS certified operator’s cab, combined with non-slip steps and walkways that provide safe access to the machine. Providing reduced vibrations and exterior noise, the cab is bolted to viscous-type isolation brackets; it combines with the dynamic McPherson-type front suspension to provide excellent operator comfort.

From the operator’s seat, the operator can observe the jobsite and surrounding areas through the large glass area and low-tilt windshield. Good visibility is complemented by a 360 ° awareness system provided by Volvo Smart View. The system uses multiple externally mounted ultra-wide-angle cameras to produce a bird’s-eye view of the vehicle and the surrounding work area via the on-board display.

In addition to the low-effort steering system, all screens and ergonomic fingertip controls are within easy reach of the fully adjustable Volvo air suspension seat, easily adjusted to fit the operator’s body.

For high levels of speed control and machine navigation, the R100 is equipped with two retarding systems. When manually selected, the transmission retarder slows the driveline to limit wheel lockup on steep descents and in wet conditions; while the modulating brake retarder can be activated automatically when the operator’s foot is released from the accelerator to maintain a constant selected gear while controlling engine speed. These functions reduce operator intervention for easier use. Many other systems also contribute to high levels of automated safety, protecting both operator and machine. These include the neutral coast inhibitor, engine overspeed protection, and secondary brake and steering systems.

Maintaining good order

Packed with durable features that provide superior protection, the R100 optimizes operations and extends maintenance intervals for lower operating costs. At the time of maintenance, the R100 maintenance points are positioned methodically to perform maintenance quickly and efficiently.

These methodically positioned service points are grouped together and located within reach of the ground and the service platform, while the straightforward rim-mounted wheel design promotes safe and quick installation and removal. Maintenance is further supported by a suite of on-board information, including system pressures, temperatures and fault reports.

Last but not least, the R100 features a high degree of filtration for better performance and extended component life. Each hydraulically functioning system has magnetic suction filters, as well as pressure filtration on the steering, brake actuation pump and brake cooling units. Engine-mounted primary and secondary fuel filters combine with advanced two-stage oil filtration to remove harmful contamination. And the vacuum engine’s air intake filters promote cleaner air intake and longer filter life.

The R100 is the ideal partner for mining and quarrying applications. It will be waiting for you at your local Volvo dealer.
