The company is expanding its presence in Kansas. He held a job fair on Friday and Saturday to interview potential candidates for the new jobs.

“We grew during the pandemic, which I know is a different story than some other companies,” said Amy Leavy, chief human resources officer.

Plant manager Chris Montgomery said the company is hiring for nearly all positions at the new plant, including welders, machinists and assemblers. Everyone is encouraged to apply.

If you don’t have any experience, Great Plains Manufacturing offers a training program.

“If you’re curious, you like learning something new, you like working with your hands and solving problems, creating new things, this would be a great career option for you,” Leavy said.

Montgomery said the expansion is exciting for the company and the community of Salina. He said the new jobs are attracting applicants from out of state.

“It also brings a new culture to this area,” he said.

Abilene native Yvonne Hooker attended the job fair on Saturday. She said she was looking for a job that didn’t require her to work nights.

“Very likeable,” Hooker said. “Very helpful. They answered all my questions.”

Montgomery said more than 120 people came to the fair and added that he has already sent out job offers as a result. Hooker said she hoped to be one of those people.

“Hoping for this one, if it works out,” she said. “If not, I’m going to stay where I am and… keep looking until I find something that suits me better, I guess.” »
