ST. LOUIS COUNTY – St. Louis County Bomb and Arson is investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire at Uncle Scotty’s mini-storage near Pershall Road.

Crews responded to the facility around 5:30 a.m. Monday and had to fight the blaze with handlines due to the tight space between units.

“The width of them is you can get a car and a vehicle in there, but doing an elevation with an aerial ladder just wasn’t our option,” said the North County Fire and Rescue Chief. , Keith Goldstein.

Five units sustained fire damage while a dozen suffered smoke damage as firefighters contained the blaze over the next five fours.

“I tried to get what could be salvaged,” said tenant Anthony Taylor, who lost about $ 9,000 in equipment inside his crumbling unit. “Sometimes things happen and you just can’t help yourself.”

Affected tenants were able to claim the damaged items during the afternoon and document the items for insurance purposes. Items inside the units included furniture, automobiles, construction equipment and paint.

“People store everything they own after they move or they use it for small small businesses,” Goldstein said. “It’s just a tragedy that people lost everything they had stored.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
